Luke Montgomery’s knowledge of both history and current events in the Middle East (esp. Turkey) makes him an invaluable source for sensing the seismic status of that highly volatile region.  Consequently, in his frequent reports of news from that area, and at no minor risk, his words are accurate, insightful and fearless.

He brings that same courage, passion and depth of knowledge to the spirit of his novel, A Deceit to Die For.  He draws rich, multifaceted historical facts into today’s emotionally and religiously charged political threads, weaving a plausible and enticing story line.  The plot presents personalities with which you will readily identify and empathize – even those with whom you fervently disagree.

The fast-paced intrigue, complications, whiplash scene changes, and emotional connection with the characters all collaborate to pull you into the story.

Fair warning - Don’t forget to breathe!

"I finished reading the book today. After spending the last ten years or so reading the best-selling authors, I am compelled to say Luke Montgomery's work is ranked with the best in my judgment. He's a scholar, a master of description and intrigue, showing a style that kept me reading past my planned time.

I prefer historical novels that involve mystery and adventure. In my mind Daniel Silva is a master novelist, but Luke gave him a run for the money in his introductory book. Ken Follet is another novelist who provides a historical, cultural treat as well as suspense. I'm trying to say Luke has the talent to go far. I'm looking forward to the next book. I feel like I personally know the O'Brien family. Zeki ranks up there among my fiction heroes.

I'm almost totally ignorant of Islam, but Luke opened some windows of cultural and religious understanding. Thanks to Luke for the dialogue that opened my eyes to spiritual life that has irrelevantly fogged my mind from time to time.
God bless!"

"This is truly an explosive novel. It's action-packed and a page-turner with all of the suspense and drama of your favorite thriller, but also crammed with fascinating historical intrigues and insights into culture that make it exquisite. A brilliant expose of institutionalized religion, it is sympathetic as well as outrageous. If you're looking for a fast-paced mystery novel, A Deceit to Die For is one you won't want to put down, but in addition to being titillated and challenged, you'll also come away with a deeper understanding of the fabric of the human spirit and the nature of the threats we all face in our attempts to uncover the truth."

"As a Middle East politics enthusiast of Turkish origin, I have witnessed the suffering of the Turkish people during the last 10 years from the Orwellian policies of an Islamic regime during which journalists are jailed for criticizing the government, the right to free speech is stifled by intimidating the public and where a government is the Big Brother who listens to private conversations and limits web access. The common Turk is also aware of Imam Gulen who resides in PA and operates schools via his organization and network throughout the world including in the US.

With all its intricacy and deceit, Turkish politics already reads like a page turner. It was about time someone created a skillful and intelligent page turner using Turkey and its politics as the base. Luke Montgomery has done exactly that.

A Deceit to Die For takes place in the UK, the USA, Egypt and Turkey. A collection of letters and books acquired by Professor O'Brien contain a document someone wants to keep a secret at whatever expense. His family in the US find themselves against an international organization who is trying to bury the secret forever. The story breathlessly unfolds an international mystique. The framework is meticulously researched and the reader is treated to slices of life from modern Istanbul, the dynamics between government institutions and between social classes. It has realistic snapshots of suicide bombers, Hizbullah terrorists, government sympathizers with veiled wives.
I am already looking forward to this author's next novel." -- Yesim Erez Deyoung "Yerez"

"A riveting tale of conspiracy and intrigue, Luke Montgomery’s audacious debut novel resurrects a 400-year old enigma and follows it to its staggering 21st century finale. The book is a breakneck journey of discovery with a rich historical context, brimming with expert firsthand knowledge of contemporary Islamic culture. Unpredictable and populated with authentic characters, it is a remarkably convincing tour de force. Witty, sinister, and emotionally charged, the plot is interlaced throughout with a thread of relevant and uniquely provoking cynicism regarding real-world politics and religion. It offers us an unconventional philosophical subtext that makes us reconsider our preconceptions about the nature of faith.

This story furnishes both depth and intensity, proving once and for all that truth really is stranger than fiction. If you only read one novel this year, it should be A Deceit to Die For. It is worth every nanosecond of your time. But be warned – it will not take long for it to become an addiction." --Elizabeth Wise, author

"It has been my great pleasure to be a 'reader' as A Deceit to Die For has taken shape. Luke's personal insight from years of living in the region and his extensive research give this book a credibility seldom seen in fiction. You will not be disappointed." --Barbara Dievsky, South Wales, United Kingdom

"It has been a delight to read A Deceit to Die For. I have been captivated by the storyline, the characters and the twists and turns throughout the book. The integral weaving of history and culture from that region into a modern-day story is riveting." --Mike Elliott,

"I dare you to read the first two chapters of A Deceit to Die For on this website because if you do, I can almost guarantee you will purchase the book! While the suspense in the plot is riveting enough to compel you to read the book in one or two sittings, you will get the added bonus of learning historical details on European and Middle Eastern affairs that you can't find anywhere else. Truly an 'inside' job" --Tim, Seattle

"A Deceit To Die For is almost impossible to break away from once started. Mr. Montgomery’s use of historical fact combined with his tremendous understanding of Turkish culture produces a captivating narrative filled with duplicity, murder and conspiracy. You’ll find yourself tearing through page after page as malevolent schemes and a diverse assembly of characters are woven into a richly textured literary tapestry. Thrilling." --Mark Bush, Fort Worth, Texas
